GPS Cell Phone Security is an important thing to consider when using GPS tracking systems. GPS vehicle tracking systems are a new and valuable technology item. GPS tracking devices make it easy for us all to navigate around in our car, and get to our destination without getting lost! We can get easy to follow turn-by-turn directions to almost anywhere. Excellent!! There are even portable GPS navigation systems which you can carry wherever you go. And for those of us with GPS tracking capability in our cell phones, we don't even have to purchase a separate GPS device anymore!! Companies use vehicle navigation GPS tracking systems to monitor employee travel, which is especially useful for companies who maintain field based employee's, who spend the majority of their work day traveling. Parents of teen drivers can even obtain control over their children's driving habits. Parents can know exactly where their children are by tracking them on GPS devices!
However, it's important to realize that an active GPS tracking device can be traced whenever it is active, and by whoever has the necessary global positioning software!!
"Big-Brother" GPS tracking capability has many people concerned about privacy. It means that employers (and anyone else who has tracking software) can locate you any time your GPS device is active. Global Positioning Software already exists which allows tracking and history of GPS device users. Nextel, Sprint, and Mapquest all offer GPS tracking plans. Companies have historical records on GPS device users available to them. They can see where you were last week, or last month, or on any date and time! GPS tracking systems can record your speed on the highway. Your employer can know if you exceed posted speed limits. These are issues which we should all be aware of.
You may need to guard your location to prevent others from tracking where you are. This is especially true if you have an abusive spouse or some other issue or concern about hving your location known.
If you are concerned about privacy, check your GPS privacy settings and use your GPS capabilities wisely. When GPS isn't needed, turn the feature OFF so that unauthorized users cannot locate your device! Use your cell phone menu system to locate the option, which varies by phone. Most GPS phones offer a feature which continues to allow emergency 911 access to GPS, even when other tracking access is disabled. Look through your menu for System tools, then select Location or GPS to change or set this option. If you can't locate the option, check with your service provider. |
